How does one bridge the gap between research and commercial trials?

This is the topic that the Founder and CEO of PHARMExcel Yvanne Enever will answer when she speaks at Grand Rounds Europe in Cambridge.

Yvanne will explain how innovators can navigate the path toward commercialising their innovations with confidence. The talk promises to provide useful insights and tips to help delegates succeed, drawing on Yvanne’s knowledge and experience from working with academic researchers, university spin outs and emerging biotechs over the past 15 years since founding PHARMExel.

Turning obstacles into milestones

Every innovator is aware that clinical trials are a checkpoint that needs to be cleared before one can commercialise an innovation. But for many researchers, clinical trials can seem like an obstacle, more than a milestone. In fact, for small academic research teams, who are already multitasking across research, fundraising, regulatory compliance and partnerships; impending clinical trials could seem overwhelming.

Yvanne founded PHARMExcel specifically to support academic researchers and university spinouts after becoming aware that a disproportionate gap existed for these researchers as they approached clinical trials. This realisation was the result of firsthand experience, when she was working at the University College London (UCL), setting up their Clinical Trials Unit and Research & Development Unit. In founding the company, Enever set out to offer high-quality, personalized, and flexible clinical trial support to these innovators. This has certainly been achieved, judging by the awards and industry recognition that PHARMExcel receives. To name a few from 2025: Life Sciences Top CRO in the UK 2025; SEHTA Medtech Finalist 2025 (Silver) and Medline Review Top Oncology Services Provider 2025.

The event program at Grand Rounds this year focuses on the obstacles that exist to translating academic innovation into therapies that can help patients. Therefore, the insights that Yvanne is set to share, will serve as a practical guide of what early-innovators must navigate along their journey to commercialisation, including: Grant application guidance, UK/EU regulatory pathways, tips for ensuring robust data collection, regulatory submissions, site management and stakeholder relations. It will provide an overview of what to expect and what not to overlook that will have innovators anticipating and meeting milestones and ultimately achieving market readiness sooner.

A Strategic CRO partner

For innovators who are looking for a CRO to partner with them along the commercialisation journey, PHARMExcel is the ideal strategic partner. The company offers specialised, full-service clinical trial support as well as the option to pick and mix the services that are required. However, the decision to work with an extraordinary CRO, like PHARMExcel delivers more than an outsourced research function. This is because PHARMExcel is not your typical CRO, as the video below explains.

Watch and learn why PHARMExcel is not your typical CRO.

Working with PHARMExel is like choosing a partner that will take the time understand your specific requirements and partner with you every step of the way. An experienced partner that anticipates and plans for your next steps in advance, increases your chance of succeeding and delivering your clinical trial on time and within budget. It is this approach that has earned this UK CRO the trust of academic researchers and university spinouts and commercial clients alike.

To provide an example, Prof Mark Lowdell, CSO, INmune Bio Inc and PHARMExcel client describes PHARMExcel as: “The most collaborative CRO I’ve worked with on our LAUREL study. PHARMExcel bothered to know us as a client and understands our studies inside out, making it an efficient and friendly partnership.”

Yvanne Enever is an expert who is passionate about guiding innovators along the journey to commercialisation, her insights will be invaluable and her speech is not to be missed. As an added bonus, Yvanne will also be engaging with innovators at the Poster Presentation sessions, which PHARMExcel is sponsoring. Yvanne and her team have said that they relish in the opportunity to discuss and explore the incredible ideas that the presenters bring to the posters and are always inspired by the innovation out there, which is why they are sponsoring this aspect of Grand Rounds.
